Have you ever thought what if MoMo(dumpling) never existed? Well then our life would simply be disastrous and unfair isn't it?. Already named as Momomandu, Momo is the most popular dish in Nepal. They are little pockets of unadulterated happiness -filled with cabbage or minced meat which are usually steamed or fried and served with hot chilli garlic tomato pickle. Momos are one of the most-loved street fares of this city . One of the most popular Nepali dish, Momo is for both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. They are healthy, easy to gobble up and definitely pocket-friendly. And the best part? They are also accompanied by complimentary bowls of steaming soup that come with an `all you-can-eat' license.
Yes, we love Momos, either in rainy days or bright sunny days; we would crave for it anytime, any day. People generally have Momo which is steamed, fried or chilly but let me tell you, you can try variety of Momo besides this. From Khuwa Momo to Tandoori Momo, Kathmandu is filled with Momo variety. Nowadays people want to try different taste in the same food hence the demand of Momo has risen. From House party to Reception, Momo item attracts children to the elders. So why not try different recipe of Momo. Every year we have Momo Mania organized in Kathmandu where we can get many different variety of Momo lined up in the stalls and thousands of people attend the event to enjoy the Momo heaven.
Most of us have basically faced the tragic moment in our life when we are travelling outside the country and there we have the struggle of finding the place where they sell the Momos. And even if we do find it, the taste and the pickle simply doesn't reach up the expectation what we are used to back in our hometown. The first thing that came up in my mind when I was in Delhi was that as soon as I land in Kathmandu I will have Momos. Even though I did taste the Momo there which was served with Mayonese (which tasted lil bit odd), so basically Momo has been on our Top food list. Because admit it, even after going through the whole menu twice or thrice we have the habit of ordering Momo in the first place.
Everyone has their own favorite little Momo spot, and debates can rage for hours on which size, shape, dough and filling is the best. The best, or worst, thing about Momos in Kathmandu is that everyone has a different place where they claim the most delectable and juicy Momos are served. It is impossible to list all these, but here I have tried to put together a comprehensive list to the varieties of Momo haunts of Kathmandu.
